Rachel and her friend Elena skied the black diamond Vortex run at Grizzly Bowl when a snowboarder came from the next trail over and hit Rachel with a pipe.  The ski patrol arrived and had her helicoptered to the hospital in San Andreas, where she died from complications caused by the blow to her head.  Elena called her friend Ken, and the two of them decided to investigate the four possible subjects. Her ex-husband was paying $2,000 a month in alimony. His trophy wife was a championship snowboarder. A former colleague was pursuing Rachel, and he had a history of violence with women who rejected him.  Unbeknownst to Rachel, a crime syndicate was laundering money through the restaurant where she was the part-time bookkeeper.  By accident, she saw the actual ledgers for the restaurant, and the IRS wanted to talk to her.  Did someone in the crime organization want Rachel eliminated, or was it the ex-husband, his wife, or the rebuffed teacher?

Baked Apple Pancake

            In Death at Grizzly Bowl,  Heidi tries to impress Ken with her special apple pancake.  When it comes from the oven, it is stunning. Batter 4 large eggs 1/2 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 tablespoon sugar Pinch of salt 1 cup of milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons butter 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg Fruit 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1 large tart apple (no need to peel) Blend eggs, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in the food processor.  With the machine running, add vanilla, butter, and nutmeg.  Let it stand for thirty minutes. Slice the apple. In a 10 inch ovenproof skillet, melt the butter and coat the sides of the pan.  Sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg over the butter.  Cover with apple slices and the other 1/4 cup of sugar.  Use medium-high heat until the mixture bubbles.
